Mangaluru, Jan 26: District in-charge minister Kota Srinivas Poojary, along with MLAs Dr Y Bharath Shetty and Vedavyasa Kamath paid surprise visit to Wenlock hospital in the city on Tuesday January 26, in the wake of the complaints raised by the public.
The trio held a meeting with district health officer Dr Ramachandra Bayari, district medical officer Sadashiv Shanbhag and doctors of the hospital. They also spoke to the patients and enquired about the facilities that they are getting in the hospital.
“Quality treatment should be provided to inpatients and outpatients in the district hospital and they should be treated in a friendly way,” said minister Srinivas Poojary to the medical officers and doctors.
“Poor people from rural and urban areas in the district and outside the district visit the hospital for treatment. Doctors and hospital staff should show service mind and treat them,” he said.
Expressing regret over complaints that the doctors and the staff do not look after patients properly, he asked the doctors and staff to work well so that there may be no complaints in the future.
He asked to make sure that the hospital has sufficient stock of instruments and medicines by inviting tenders from time to time. “There are complaints that the doctors here are asking patients to go to private hospitals. Strict action will be taken against the doctors if such complaints are heard in the future,” he said.
“It is heard that the doctors are issuing prescriptions to buy medicines from private medical centres after examining them. Medicines and tablets should be issued in the hospital free of charge. Basic necessities such as drinking water, toilets etc should be provided to the inpatients.”
“Importance should be given for hygiene in the hospital. Non-medical staff should maintain Covid guidelines without fail. People should observe the guidelines mentioned on the boards in the hospital premises,” he said.
He listened to in-patients and outpatients and assured that he will make sure that there are no lapses in the future.
