Bantwal, Feb 2: An LPG tanker carrying gas to Bengaluru fell by its side in front of Soorikumeru mosque in the taluk on Tuesday February 2 morning. Luckily so far, the LPG in the tanker has not leaked. However, later that day at around 1 pm the tanker was removed with the help of a crane in an eight-hour-long operation. 

After the driver of the tanker lost control over the tanker, the vehicle fell on the road. As a result, vehicular traffic on the national highway 75 between Mangaluru and Bengaluru has come to a standstill. The locals helped in regulating vehicular movement.

Vehicles coming from the direction of Mangaluru were diverted via Kalladka, Vittal road while those arriving from Uppinangady were sent via Mani, Budoli, Kabaka road. Vittal police and fire brigade personnel have been handling the situation. Under the leadership of Budoli Youth Federation and Soorikumeru Badriya Young Men’s members apart from some locals, traffic is being handled at various spots.

The loudspeaker of the mosque was used to spread the message in the area, warning people against using or igniting fire till the incident is handled by experts and the risk factor is removed.

Following the removal of the tanker, the traffic was regulated under the leadership of Bantwal traffic SI Rajesh and Vittal SI Vinod Reddy. The tanker that toppled at the residential area had created panic. However, the successful removal of the gas tanker from the area without causing any mishap by the police officials, local groups and associations is being commended.
