Industrious Cheats Caught in Midnight Raid

Industrious Cheats Caught in Midnight Raid

Gulbarga, Jun 24 (DHNS) : BEd students were burning the midnight oil at a college on Tuesday. But there was a catch. They were not studying. They were ''writing'' answer scripts for an exam that had already been concluded, when the police, tipped off about the ''overdiligent'' students, raided the Indira Gandhi Memorial BEd College at Jelanabad here, just past midnight.

Apparently, the college had not deposited the answer scripts of the papers for which examinations were held from June 18 to 22, in order to enable certain students write the examinations clandestinely with the intention of ensuring that they pass.

The racket appears to be deep-rooted with the police suspecting the collusion of the university examination department officials. Police Inspector Mallikarjun Bande said  26 students—20 from Uttar Pradesh, two from Bihar, one from Madhya Pradesh and three from Gulbarga—have been arrested. They are being remanded in judicial custody.

Criminal cases have been filed against others, including  college principal Mohammed Moulana, the chairman of the Mehboob Subhani Charitable Trust which runs the BEd College, Registrar (Evaluation) of Gulbarga University, invigilators, internal and external squad and others. The principal and office-bearers of the Trust are absconding.

Apart from the BEd college with an intake of 100 students, the institution also runs a DEd college, arts and science degree college, PU college and a high school.

Meticulous verification

“We are verifying all the papers and documents before making further arrests. Since it is a serious case, we have to do our job meticulously,” said Inspector Bande.

Police said the racket was well organised, involving students from outside Karnataka who were keen on securing BEd certificates at any cost. They would come to the college on only two occasions —once for admission and for writing the “open examination” with an assurance from the management to get them degrees.

The police have also seized Rs 1.07 lakh, 19 mobile phones, three motorbikes, answer scripts, photocopies of question papers and other materials from the hostel attached to the college where they were writing the papers.

The raid on a tip-off was conducted  by a police team led by Deputy Superintendent of Police “A” Division Madhuraveena.

Cases have been registered under a number of sections of IPC, including 420, 419, 120 (B), and investigations are on.

Mr Shiv Karkala, yes it is happening everywhere in India! But not in Karnataka earlier. We consider ourselves learned, developed and civilised citizen comparitively. We did not hear of such things during our college days. Why now happens on large scale.Education ministry is dealing with educational activities and certainly responsible in the ommission commission of the department.

These people should not be treated as criminals..., every one tries to find an easy way out( in this case to pass). The system it self should be changed & made foolproof. The lady officer looks like a sadist while pinching the unprofessional criminal!

The society has given an impression
that reaching the destination through shortcut is a smart idea,
and the public may adore those
    people as "lucky".

But none of them will reach the
destination of life and stay at
the top in life. We will reap from
where we sow. Look at the students: they can't face the
public and the world because of the
    shame brought upon themselves
    through shortcuts in life.

It is very strange to see some one's comments.....now fraud is caught...no appreciation.......if fraud is allowed...there is a lot of critics, here fraud is not caught by central agency or any other state police, it is purely a feather for karnataka police.some people have only agenda of critizising the karnataka
goverment. Some time I feel Mr.Nagesh Nayak's comments is very much suitable.......I think DAIJI should bring more and more news from out side karanataka and other part of the country, some people are restricted to only karnataka...fake degree certificates ...fake univarsities..fake passport...all comes under crime....there is a department called police, they are doing their job better than any other previous goverment..minister nothing to do with this, crime.. where it is not there...Bijapur Gulbarga ....it is very well known that how the universities are functioning....

This is the result of the promotion of the greatest vice of this country 'RESERVATIONS'. In a land where MERIT no longer holds weight, uninterested and disoriented youth, simply jump onto the bandwagon, under societial pressures and the ease of making it through with the reserved ticket. Humbugs.

It happens only in India. The Supreme court had rightly said that education system in India has been too commercialised and also corrupted. Look at Medical Council of India scam, then the granting of Deemed University Status, then the Railway Board Recruitment exam etc etc. Till 1990 there was only a few professional colleges in mangalore and now you see no count. Promoters who are in Timber business, liquor business, Industrialists, Hotel business have started educational institutions with the sole purpose to multiply their personal net worth. Since 1947 completion of 63 years independence there is enough of mess filled in this country and I am afraid it will take a century to clear it, like the Indian courts we have 3.50 Crores of cases languishing in courts and it will take 350 years to complete it. Hats off India. Even god cannot save you my dear mother india.

Ismail, please do not link everything to the Karnataka and the Ministry. Since it has happened in Karnataka, at-least some action is taken. This is happening every where in India, but not coming out due to dirty politics.

The people behind this are the ones, who want to disturb India and its Will power. we need to fight against these activists, and not just asking for the resignation of someone.

Woww...these are the teachers will going to teach our kids. What a shame. How can we trust any educational institutions? As some readres said, the certificate of the principl should be verified and the affiliation to the college should be withdrawn.
Nowadays education is become a profitable business. These kind of institutions should be shut immediately.

These people, once they get a job, they would only teach the children how to copy and pass. It is a disgrace to the whole teaching community. Those caught should never be allowed to teach. I have heard that some of the schools in Bangalore encourages copying in SSLC exams. Their teachers visit the exam venue and make some adjustments with the invigilators so that their students can copy. Those involved should never be spared.

My sincere appreciation to all the police and other officials who participated in this operation. This shows that if an official is given free hand without political or other intereference, he/she can do wonders to eradicate all these corrupt practices. it gives hope to all the citizens that justice cannot be dumped and as long as every citizen of this country cooperates with the officials to do their duty sincerely. Hats off to you officials. May your good work continue.

This is really great. This intitution should be banned, all the corrupt should be imprisoned. If these people become engineer's buliding's will collapse bridges will fall and road's will have to be relaid every three month's. God know's how many have taken degrees from here over the year's. I think one of the engineer might be from this institution for the Delhi bridge collapse, and god know's how many have gone overseas to bring a bad name to our country. Strict action is to be taken.

Tell me who is honest? Only God is honest.

It is true, degree and education has become a commodity of commerce. It can be bought and sold at a price and no more it is a matter of achievement. Its just a matter of ownership.
