Puttur: Customer's account debited without use of ATM card, OTP

Puttur, Feb 9: A person having a savings bank account with a bank has complained that about a sum of Rs 15,400 was debited from her account without the use of ATM card. However, the debit states that the ATM card was used to withdraw this money.

Tarashree from Edu village in Karkala taluk has a savings bank account with Union Bank of India's Naravi branch. She is currently put up in her parental home at Uppinangady as she is pregnant. On February 7, she got a message on her mobile phone which read that about Rs 10,000 and Rs 5,400 are debited from her account with the use of the ATM card. She checked and found that the card was with her. She says she never shared any information about her account with anyone. She has complained to the bank officials, seeking to reimburse the money.

The fraudsters have been finding new ways to siphon off money belonging to others. The banks, therefore, have to introduce additional security measures to save customers from incurring losses for no fault of theirs.

During December and January, complaints about money having been withdrawn through the ATMs without depositors knowledge had been filed. The police found out that some machinery was installed by the miscreants for skimming the information and using that information later to withdraw money. This had happened at Chilimbi, Suratkal Kulai, and Naguri.

This is possible by skimming-cloning her card & recording her pin by hidden camera! She should find out in which ATM she did the last transaction!
