Kasargod: Hometown Honours Cricketer Anil Kumble

Kasargod, Jun 28: Anil Kumble, former Indian test cricketer was honoured by the residents of his hometown Kumble, near here, on Sunday June 27. Kumble Gram Panchayat (GP) president M Abbas and standing-committee president Ashraf Kodyamme headed the ceremony on the occasion.
Kumble inaugurated a stretch of road from Telephone Exchange to City Hall here on Sunday. This stretch of road was laid with interlocks by the Kumbla GP with contributions from locals.
The former Indian cricketer was taken in a colourful procession to the venue at City Hall, and the event was attended by over 1,000 people.
Kumble GP president M Abbas and Kasargod MP P Karunakaran inaugurated the programme at City Hall and honoured Anil.
Manjeshwar MLA C H Kunjambu, Kasargod MLA C T Ahmed Ali, former MP I Rama Rai, and NRI entrepreneur Khader Teruvatt also spoke on the occasion.
Acknowledging the honour, Anil said that he is proud to hail from a family in the town. He said that he would cherish the great honour throughout his life.
Anil’s close friend and NRI entrepreneur Khader Teruvatt was instrumental in organizing the programme.
Kumbla GP vice-president welcomed the gathering. Ashraf Kodyamme proposed the vote of thanks.
