Beltangady, Feb 18: In a strange case, a person whose body was found from a pond was cremated by the family members as per customs. Even as the family was preparing for the post funeral rituals, the man who the family had believed to have died, came back alive.

This incident took place at Gardady village in the taluk. Srinivas Devadiga (60) from the village had disappeared all of a sudden on January 26. His children had filed a missing complaint in Beltangady police station. After a week, on February 3, a decomposed body of a man that had been damaged beyond recognition, was found floating in Kullunja pond in Odilnala village. The family members believed it to be the body of Devadiga and performed the funeral.

When the post funeral rituals were under way, the family got information that Srinivas Devadiga was alive at Mangaluru. He was brought back from a roadside at Mangaluru.

Srinivas is addicted to liquor. He stayed in the residence of his brother. He also once in a way visited his in-laws home at Mangalore. Many times he would leave his home without any information, and spend days at different places. After a body was found from the pond, the family had believed that he had accidentally slipped and fallen in the pond.

The police are now busy finding out the actual identity of the body which was recovered from the pond.
