Puttur, Jul 2: A Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) Rajahamsa bus moving towards Mangalore from Bangalore crashed into the protective railings of Kootelu bridge and dived about 100 feet down into a subsidiary of River Netravati at around 4.30 am on Friday July 2. The driver of the vehicle died on the spot, while all the 11 passengers were injured.

Reasons for the accident are yet to be ascertained, although it is thought that either the driver would have experienced dizziness or drowsiness, or that the vehicle would have suffered brake failure. Out of the 11 injured, the condition of three is stated to be serious. All the injured passengers were shifted to private hospitals in Puttur.

The names of the injured passengers are Kariappa (conductor), Srikant, Chandrashekhar, Bhaskar and Dr Anand from Bangalore, Ravalesh from Jodumutt, Mangalore, Pravin from Jamakhandi and Charan. Names of other three are as yet not known.

Local assistant superintendent of police, Amit Singh, Uppinangady police circle inspector, B K Manjaiah Naika, and Uppinangady sub inspector of police, Nagesh Kadri, visited the spot and supervised relief operations. MP, Nalin Kumar Kateel, is slated to visit the accident spot and the injured persons later in the day.

KSRTC buses were doing well in the b'lore M'lore routes with minimum number of accidents, except one accident in which the bus hit the truck with wooden logs last year.old narrow bridge where two vehicles can't pass through or slippery roads due to the rain may be the reason. condolences to the driver who lost his life and praying for a speedy recovery of the injured specially the critical ones.

What is the Govt. doing regarding these frequent accidents by KSRTC. Steps are already on the move to blame it on "BRAKE FAILURE". No blame/bad name if brake failure. With this the inadequacies in the KSRTC will never be probed or assessed and in the end bypassed. No lessons are learnt again.
