Kundapur, Feb 24: BJP MLA Srinivas Shetty inspected the Saligrama fish market and the spot where the market is intended to be shifted due to the construction of the Saligrama national highway service road. Fisherwomen expressed their grievances during the visit.
The MLA assured the fisherwomen who were disappointed due to the shifting process to an alternative temporary market within a week. “I will construct the temporary market with my own money. The contractors will arrive on Tuesday to prepare a blueprint and the work will be over in a week.”
"The highway people will acquire the current market area. But the town panchayat will construct full fledged shops in the remaining place,” he said to the petty shopkeepers.
Meanwhile, auto-rickshaw drivers said that they will lose their business due to the project and requested the MLA to help. The MLA assured them that a rickshaw stand will be arranged for them at the current place.
He confronted the Navayuga company officials and told the company engineer Kashi that the work done by them in most of the places is unscientific.
Saligrama town panchayat president, Sulatha Hegde, vice president, Anusooya Herle, members Raju Poojary, Rathna Nagaraj Ganiga, Bhaskar Bangara, opposition party leader, Srinivas Ameen, town panchayat engineer, Rajashekar, Sanjeeva Devadiga and others were present.
