Udupi: District Congress Felicitates Oscar Fernandes, GP Members

Udupi, Jul 2: A felicitation programme for gram panchayat (GP) members backed by the district Congress party and Oscar Fernandes, who was re-elected Rajya Sabha member recently, was held at Ammanni Ramanna Shetty Auditorium, here on Friday July 2.
Fernandes was taken in a motor rally by the party activists from Bajpe Airport to the venue on Friday morning. After reaching the venue, Fernandes, accompanied by his wife Blossom, was garlanded with flowers by an elephant.
The activists of Seva Dal and other gymnasts presented a display of acrobatics on the occasion.
Acknowledging the honour, Fernandes said that more candidates backed by the Congress have won the recently held GP elections in the district and this has increased the responsibility of the party.
He added that the combined efforts of grass root-level party activists will enable the Congress to come back to power in Karnataka and appealed to activists to work towards this.
Fernandes further said that the price hike of petroleum products is dependent on the international market and said that prices are likely to stabilize after the monsoon season.
The local Congress leaders also felicitated Fernandes and the newly-elected GP members on the same occasion.
Karkala MLA Gopal Bhandary, MLC Pratapchandra Shetty, former MP Vinay Kumar Sorake, former MLAs Jayaprakash Hegde and Gopal Poojary, former state minister Vasant V Salian, Mohidden Bava, Veronica Cornelio, Shyamala Bhandary, and DCC president M A Gafoor were present on the occasion.
Manjunath Udyavar compered the programme.
