KARWAR, Jul 9 (The Hindu): Abdul Samad Mohammed Zarrer Sidibapa returned to his home town of Bhatkal on Thursday after he was released on bail by a Mumbai court.
Samad was arrested by the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad, on his return to Mangalore, on the charge of supplying arms.
It was said that he was arrested for alleged involvement in the blast in Pune's German Bakery, but the police denied it.
Samad and his family members refused to speak to the media, saying he was released on bail, so he could not make any comment.
Later speaking to journalists, Samad refused to answer questions relating to his arrest and release. He thanked the people of Bhatkal and the media for their support to him when he was in crisis.
Samad's family members objected to the tagging by the media of ‘Bhatkal' with the names of terror suspects, saying this would create a wrong impression about the citizens of Bhatkal, irrespective of their religion.
Samad's uncle Mohammad Ali said Yasin Bhatkal, an alleged terrorist involved in many blasts, was not the brother of Samad. He had a brother named Mohammad Ahmad, who is not in touch with the family after a dispute. His whereabouts were not known.
