Moodbidri, Jul 11: Three young girls met an untimely death when they got drowned in a quarry this morning at around 8.30 am, at Karianangady in Belvai village, where they had gone to play in the water. The deceased have been identified as Nidanoor (13), daughter of Noor Hassan, Nasma (10) and Mimranoor (12) both daughters of Nasir Hussain, all residents of Kariyangady, near here.

These young girls were neighbors and on a weekend they decided to go to play in the nearby water-filled quarry.
It is believed that they were playing at the shallow edge when one of them must have slipped and fallen and the other two girls must have met a similar fate when they tried to rescue their companion. In the process all three of them were drowned.
During rainy season these quarries get filled with water tempting children in the vicinity to play in the shallow edges. Some of these quarries are quite deep depending on the number of layers of stone extracted from them and can be quite dangerous for those who do not know swimming.
More details are awaited.
