Bengaluru, Mar 15: Deputy chief minister and higher education minister Dr C N Ashwath Narayan has promised to discuss with chief minister B S Yediyurappa on granting a minimum monthly salary of Rs 25,000 and job security for the guest lecturers in government degree colleges.

A decision will be taken after discussing the demands of the guest lecturers in government degree colleges with the chief minister and department officials, he said.

The assurance was given during a discussion with representatives of the welfare committee of guest lecturers in government degree colleges in the chambers of the state Legislative Council chairman Basavaraj Horatti in Bengaluru on Monday.

The deputy chief minister promised to consider all the other demands of the guest lecturers in government degree colleges on humanitarian consideration.

The demands include regularization of the services of the guest lecturers who had completed 10 years of service instead of the present practice of reappointing them on a contract basis after every 12 months. The monthly honorarium for the guest lecturers must be fixed at a minimum of Rs 25,000.

Members of the upper house Ayanuru Manjunath, Arun Shahapur, S L Bojegowda, S V Sankanur, Sushil Namoshi and others participated in the meeting.

The guest lecturer is in no way inferior in education compared to a normal lecturer. Requirement is a masters degree in the subject with 55% marks and should have cleared National Eligibility Test for lecturers (NET) conducted by UGC. It is a pity that these guest lecturers have to knock the door of higher education minister for the problems they are facing. The most difficult stage of our life is during the period we do not have a secure job after studying hard and excelling in Education.
