Mangaluru: Smart City Project - High court permits resumption of stranded work

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Mar 16: On the basis of the assurance of the government that it is committed to stick to the guidelines which may be stipulated by the National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI), the state high court (HC), which had ordered suspension of all smart city project work, on Monday March 15, permitted to go ahead with these works.

A public interest litigation filed by Karnataka Legal Services Authority relating to the miseries heaped by the landslide suffered at the garbage landfill site at Pachanady that had devastated Kudupu, Pachanady and Mandara areas, came up for consideration on Monday before the division bench of the high court comprising Chief Justice A S Oka and Justice Sooraj Govindaraj.

State advocate general, Prabhulinga Navadagi, who appeared in the high court on behalf of Mangaluru Smart City Project Ltd, assured the bench that the company is committed to conform to the standard operating procedure and guidelines as set by NEERI when undertaking building and other construction works under the said project. He also furnished an affidavit executed by Mangaluru Smart City Project Ltd managing director, Prashanth Kumar Mishra.

The high court said that it is allowing to continue the suspended works based on the assurances made by the state government and the Mangaluru Smart City Project to stick to the guidelines of NEERI. It upheld an interim application moved by the company seeking permission to start the works that have stopped. It asked the company to furnish details of the decisions taken at the board of directors meeting of the company, before adjourning the hearing to March 30.

It's a SCAM in the name of "Smart Xhitty" project. BJP is good at hoodwinking the public with such catchy names. Look at the Kankanady area, from Bendore Junction to Fr. Muller's Hospital, it looks like some overgrown messy, shoddy village. Disgusting.

Even after smart city allocation.. Mangalore City hasn't beautified much.. Ok ok average...build proper beautiful footpaths at the heart of city first on both sides.. Lalbagh, Bejai, mannagudda, Gandhinagar, jail road etc.. If possible, plant similar plants throughout....if you cannot afford interlocks for interior road footpaths.. At least fill it with regular asphalt.. Rather than living it muddy...

Smart city planners must concentrate on saving the empty spaces before they r run over by ill planned govt projects like the DC office and redeveloping markets which r looking like painted shabby slums.Digging of concrete roads is due to hasty decision of making them without putting in proper services and pipelines before laying concrete. No point blaming planners . Allowing buildings close or adjacent to large drains should be prohibited. Buildings on slopes,or on altered slopes and in deep valleys should be stopped by Neeri. It will create extreme problems of landslides and flooding. Pachanady and other land fill areas should have an exclusion zone where no humans live.land was cheap in 2005 and before ,many bought thinking it is cheap so it is good not giving a proper thought to proximity of dump and it's problems.

Now MCC may be happy that one side they start the work where they have stoped and on the other side they can start digging the concrete road for other purposes like, Gas pipe line, drainage blocked, water pipe line damage area, like that many development works.
