Govt to take tougher measures if COVID safety norms not followed: Dr Sudhakar

Bengaluru, Mar 16: “If COVID safety measures like wearing masks, social distancing and other guidelines are not properly followed, then we are left with no option but to take tougher measures,’’ warned Health and Medical Education Minister Dr K Sudhakar in Bengaluru on Tuesday.

Speaking to the media persons, he said Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa has given a clear message regarding this.

“Covid cases are increasing in the state. There is spike in the cases in the neighbouring states as well. The Chief Minister has issued strict instructions to follow guidelines, otherwise government has no option but to take tougher steps,’’ Dr Sudhakar said.

He said, “We are giving large advertisements from today to create awareness. Vaccination will be increased further. 15 lakh people have been vaccinated so far. Primary hospitals are instructed to conduct at least 100 tests per day and 500 tests per day is the target for general hospitals. At least 20 primary and secondary contacts have to be traced for every infected persons.’’

“Spike in the cases is due to increase in the number of cases at bordering districts. Strict rules will be implemented for gatherings,’’ he said.

“A decision will be taken on this after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s video conference with Chief Ministers of all States on Wednesday,’’ he added.

    Dr. Sudhakar...do you have how many people died in Karnataka because of pneumonia and because of Covid-19....!!!!????? You will never have this.

    OK alright when it comes to gatherings on private programs strict rules has to be followed, but when political rally / assembly takes place on no rules are required, first try to secure it from inside within govt

    Why did you let your guard down and create a situation for a second wave ? Did not learn lessonsfrom thefirst wave and implement measures knowing fully well that other countries were witnessing second wave months ago? Govt. Was more interested in opening everything to kickstart economy... now time to face kickbacks...
