Udupi, Mar 17: With the rise in the number of Covid cases across the country, fear of the second wave of Covid infections has surfaced. There has also been a sudden increase in the number of cases in the last few days in the Udupi district along with the positive Covid cases being reported in the Manipal campus.

On basis of this, the district administration in an order dated March 17, 2021, has declared the whole MIT Manipal campus as a containment zone. 200m radius from the containment zone has been marked as a buffer zone. For effective implementation of Covid-19 control measures, Raju K, assistant commissioner, Kundapur sub-division has been appointed as the incident commander and will therefore be overall in-charge of the containment zone.

"Movement of students within the campus can be allowed with norms which are explained as in MHA guidelines. Faculty and essential duty staff of MIT campus are allowed with proper pass/identification," the order stated.

Further, the order also stated that until the denotification of the containment zone, the entry and exit gate of Trishanku Nagar will be closed temporarily. The entry and exit of Pavitra Nagar residents through the MIT campus will be allowed once they produce pass/ID.

As per the official order the containment zone boundaries are, for the east side - Vivekananda Nagar, in the north - Work Shop Line, in the west - Alevoor Road and in the south - Trishanku Nagar.

Amid the new orders issued by the district administration, the MAHE administration has announced conducting all theory classes online and deferring the laboratory/practical classes/contact classes to a later date. The pending first-semester examination of BTech will be rescheduled to a later date as per MIT's official media release.

This above regulations is not correct if the staff go to work and bring the sickness to home. Ithis is not fare forIf it's lock down then complete lack.down is required. No staff should allowed to come to work for 15 days only.

KMC should have by now become vaccination centre not containment zone. Private sector is infinitely better at this yet govt still keeping tight control.
