Kaup, Mar 24: Religious ritual of offering stones to the new Marigudi temple in the town, which will be renovated at a cost of Rs 35 crore, concluded on Tuesday March 23.
The ritual was flagged off in the presence of development committee, management committee, 99 devotees, who offered the stones for the new temple and devotees of Saviraseeme, under the leadership of priest of Kaup New Marigudi temple Vidwan Korangrapadi Raghavendra Tantri, Vedamoorthy Kumaraguru Tantri and Vedamoorthy Srinivasa Tantri. Management trustees of various temples, presidents of management committees, religious, social, political leaders, people representatives and representatives of organizations were present.
Speaking on the religious stage programme, MLA Lalaji R Mendon, who presided over the function, said, "Time has come to build a grand temple to goddess of our village, which is 200 years old like the building of Ram Mandir at Ayodhya which is 400 years old. Along with the contribution of devotees, government funds will also be given and a magnificent temple will be built to the Goddess."
Udupi deputy commissioner Dr G Jagadeesha, Kaup town municipality president Anil Kumar, former minister Vinaya Kumar Sorake, eminent personalities like Dr B R Shetty, Ravi Sundara Shetty, Prakash Shetty Banjara, Rajshekhara Kotian, Anil Ballal, Vikram Kaup, Dharmapala Devadiga, Manava Joshi, Ratnakara Hegde, Virar Shankara Shetty, executive officer of Kaup Sri Laxmi Janardhan temple Sudhir Kumar Shetty, former administrative trustee Nadikere Ratnakara Shetty and Nirmal Hegde were present.
President of Kaup Sri New Marigudi temple development committee K Vasudeva Shetty, executive officer Suresh Shetty Gurme, president of management committee, Ramesh Hegde Kallya, executive officer Prashant Kumar Shetty, chief convener of financial committee Udaya Sundara Shetty, chief convener of public relations committee Yogish Shetty Balaji, vice president of development committee Kaup Divakara Shetty, Madhava R Palan, Manohar Shetty Kaup, members of management committee Chandrashekhar Amin, Jagadish Bangera, Ravindra M, Renuka Devadiga, Shailaja Purushotam, Babu Mallaru, Patris of Marigudi Guru Moorthy and Sachin Patri were present.
Suresh P Shetty Gurme, executive president of Kaup New Marigudi temple development committee, welcomed the gathering. Vice president Deviprasad Shetty Belapu did the introductory speech. Gangadhar Suvarna Kaup rendered the vote of thanks. Nithesh Shetty Ekkaru and Arpita P Shetty Katapady compered the event.
K Vasudeva Shetty, president of New Marigudi development committee said, "There is an aim to collect nine lac stones in the next nine months for the comprehensive renovation and development of Kaup new Marigudi. The committe has taken a vow to comprehensively renovate the temple of Goddess in the next 18 months. The committee is dedicated to the service of Goddess as the assurance given by her with regards to the procurement of stones. Devotees are also responding suitably."
Kalavadhi Suggi Maripooja, which is one of the renowned religious rituals of seven Jathras of Tulunadu started on the evening of Tuesday, March 23 in a grand manner. This will continue till the evening of Wednesday, March 24.
As a prelude to the Suggi Maripooja, the symbolical idol of Mariamma Devi and image with ornaments, was brought in procession from Sri Laxmi Janardhana temple to old Marigudi Sri Venkataramana Temple, Kaup New Marigudi and Kaup third (Kalya) Marigudi, on the night of Tuesday, March 23.
After installing the symbolical idol of Mariamma Devi and the idol that is carved out of Hongaraka tree by sculptor at the pedestal various Maripooja rituals were held and Suggi Maripooja was officially inaugurated. The uniqueness of this festival is that all the religious rituals are held simultaneously in all the three Marigudis.
On the night of Tuesday, Darshana Seve will be held. Then the idol of Devi will be kept open for devotees to offer their reverence till the afternoon of Wednesday. After the afternoon Pooja on Wednesday, again Darshana Seve will begin. After distributing Abhaya Prasada in Darshana Seve, the idol of Mariamma Devi will be taken in procession and immersed at a specific place at Mallru. Thereby all the rituals of yearly Suggi Maripooja get over.
All the three Marigudis are decorated with lights and flowers on account of Suggi Maripooja. Various shops and stalls have also opened in and around these three Marigudis. Devotees and public is thronging to these stalls and shops.
Gaddige Pooje is a special service that is offered at Kaup Mariamma temple. In addition, various services including Hoovina Pooje, Kumkumarachane Seve and other vows are offered to the Devi.
Heavy police presence under the leadership of Kaup CI is arranged in all the three Marigudis. More than 200 police personnel including senior police officers are camping at the spot. Attempt is also being done to make the public aware of wearing mask and maintaining social distance.
Gopoorotsava programme in the new silver swing, in which image of Devi will be brought on silver chariot from old Sri Mariamma temple, which is managed by Kaup Pete Gowda Saraswatha society, is also completed. The speciality of this year was the Shila Seve Samarapana programme which was organized on account of the comprehensive renovation of New Marigudi.
