Traffic rules and senses are always teaching to drivers not pedestrians. I seen in Guwhathi Assam, all pedestrians walking on footpath not on roads. Off course drunk and drive is offence, but the irresponsibility of pedestrians also seen in these type to of accidents.

I together with another Man took him to the hospital but he was already dead. Still tried our luck. Pumping his heart throughout. Apart from the drunken driver there were two reasons 1) The man was walking on the same side as the vehicles. 2) He was walking on the road though there was a newly built footpath. The driver is definitely guilty for being drunk(more like murder), but just bringing it to your notice as being defensively careful (as though someone will cause an accident) on the road whether while walking or on vehicle, helps save lives. Unfortunate. Hope to thank the other good samaritan too. Be careful guys and help those hurt on the road. Still trying to accept what happened.

Many a times, these motorists say auto, car, bike ride on footpath, not allowing pedestrians to walk....not even reducing the speed near zebra crossing. If the traffic gets jammed means finish ....al the vehicles hurriedly come forward and stop at the footpath to ply as fast as they can once the traffic police gives signal......Om shanthi...Anandanna

Whereas it is a crime to be driving inebriated, and the accused should be duly punished, in this particular case why is no one asking - what business did the pedestrian have walking on a motorway? Isn’t jaywalking also a punishable offense as per Motor Vehicles Act? Yes it is. If the reason for walking on the road was lack of footpath, then why is not PWD, municipal corporation and the state government held responsible for this pedestrians death? Until we learn to fix accountability where it belongs this country will not move forward.

Sir, have you visited Mangalore ? Tell me how many roads have footpath. Hardly any....Pedestrians have to share space with the vehicles.. Mangalore is a haphazard city.. Unplanned.. no wide roads, no footpath. its time we develop the outer areas like mulki padubidri and ease out the congestion of mangalore core city

Very unfortunate incident. Condolences to the family. We as responsible adults should make all efforts to not drink and drive however clear-headed we may feel at the moment. At the same time pedestrians should also take the same care. It is somehow in our collective nature to walk on the road even if a clear broad sidewalk is available. I cant help but feel that this incident might not have occurred if the victim was walking on the SIDEWALK instead of on the road. Because incidents like these, no matter whose fault, the inebriated person will be held responsible.

Very sad and punishment should be for murder. What are the police doing? should be close to bars to nab drivers who are drunk and driving. The accused should not be out on bail. The MCC should see to it that pedestrians have good footpath to walk safely.

Even when a footpath is provided by the coorportaion, no one uses it. People still prefer to jay walk on the road. A risk to themselves and to the commuters(drunk or sober).

these govt employees get so much bribe that they dont know how to spend it.. this must be some party thrown by contractor where this stupid fellow drunk to the brim and killed innocent person. As the laws of the land are very weak and not effective, incidents like this will continue to happen. This fellow will be out on bail soon as the case will be termed as culpable homicide not amounting to murder. If the deceased is financially poor then dont ask. All pressure will be exerted on his family to retract the statements etc and they will be given some amount as compensation.
