Bengaluru: Decision soon on promoting children up to ninth standard without exams

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Mar 29: Health and medical education minister Dr K Sudhakar, stated that clouds of uncertainty have cast dark shadows on the possibility of holding exams for school children with increasing corona cases in the state. He said that discussions on the advisability of promoting students to the next classes without holding examination will be discussed with the chief minister (CM) and suitable decision would be taken.

There has been pressure from private schools to hold examinations at the earliest. They want to finish the examination process early as coronavirus infection is increasing. Primary and secondary education minister S Suresh Kumar, clarified that no decision on the issue has been taken by the government so far and a decision will be taken at the appropriate time.

A meeting with the participation of the CM, ministers concerned and in-charge ministers will be held today to discuss steps to stop the surging coronavirus infection in its tracks.

Sudhakar said that there has been phenomenal rise in the number of corona cases in Maharashtra and the next seven to eight weeks are crucial in which stringent steps have to be taken as per instructions received from the technical advisory committee. He added that there is strict instruction from the centre not to close the state's borders. The minister pointed out that four weeks back, day-to-day cases in the state were 300 where now they have risen to 3,000. He felt that the measures so far taken are not sufficient. He felt that there is a need to have control over the people coming into the city and reaching the state from other states. He said he has already held discussions with the home minister and a suitable decision will be taken after bringing the same to the attention of the CM.

This decision does not make sense for promoting children up to ninth standard or in fact any grade. This would be like getting a certificate or any degree without attending any school or colleges.

Reopening schools itself was a terribly wrong decision when the academic year is almost over. Schooling has become a money making business with the concerned ministers hand in glove. Nobody cares a damn about students lives or their parents financial status.

Please wear mask at all times. Its my humble plea. The future of our destiny is at stake. Dont be lackadaisical in your attitude. Get the vaccine for not just this buy all future variants. Deadly corona can only be fought with mask, injection and total lockdown. What economy will be there if life only isnt there? Use your brains.

That is a very sensible decision. No child needs to be put through the torture of an exam until the child wants to pursue a degree or a diploma course. It should be up to the degree/diploma course providers to check the eligibility of an applicant. Until then, the RESPONSIBILITY of imparting whatever skills/learning needed (to the child) should be with the parents, and not the teachers.
