Expert committee identifies 23 taluks prone to landslides

Bengaluru, Apr 1: The Expert Committee on Landslides, constituted by the State Government under the Chairmanship of Ananth Hegde Ashisara, Chairman of Karnataka Biodiversity Board, has in its final report submitted to Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa in Bengaluru on Thursday had identified 23 taluks in the State that are prone to landslides.

The Committee has recommended strengthening of the District Level Disaster Management Committees to handle the situation in the case of landslides.

The Expert Committee has made numerous recommendations for the prevention of landslides, relief measures and reconstruction and has suggested preparing an action plan pertaining to prevention of landslides.

The Chief Minister, after receiving the final report, said the State Government will study and examine the report and take suitable decisions.

The Committee, which examined the situation following the landslides in Western Ghats, has submitted its report today after conducting a detailed study on landslide hit areas.

The Committee has provided guidelines for the protection of rivers and valleys in the vulnerable areas of Western Ghats and the coastal region. It has also given several significant scientific suggestions and relief measures for the prevention of landslides.

    No excavator to be allowed..So called Hitachi .. jcb etc .. With this most of the landslides can be avoided.. all hap hazard plots ..flattened hills .. unscientific roads which are not widened properly .. no proper slopes

    This is another matter ready for obtain get NOC and milk money.These polititians will not allow problems like sand,jelly CRZ to end because it makes money. Earlier 30,40 years back river beds so deep now filled with sand and silt which needs to be drejjed but experts report it will damage fishes hatching. But they don't anything about polluting rivers in CRZ zone.

    The government rejects the Kasturirangan report on western ghats which mentions illegal encroachments and protection of forests. But makes a separate report for landslides. How funny our politicians and the state has become
