This has reference to your statement, "If your closest and dearly loved one is killed by someone and later you are given 75 Laks or 75 crores , would you be happy ?? Would the money replace your loved one ?????."

In my opinion, and in the commonly accepted opinion, as you said, money certainly cannot replace the dead, but it will certainly compensate the death. Therefore if any one accepts money against the death of a person, the matter is closed and he/she should keep the mouth shut.

But inspite of taking the money and then saying, yes I took the money but money cannot bring back the dead, is just shedding crocodile tears.

If money cannot bring back the dead, then be a man refuse the money, go for justice. punish the guilty.That is showing the love to the loved ones.(Now dont put the blame on the Pilot as guilty).

Also if the memorial was built by the family members/relatives/friends/well wishers, it would have been love.

Dear Greg , Im 100% sure that you did not have any of your loved ones on AIE .And for your kind information its not a debate we are having on Daijiworld.

Its not commenting " Why was this not done or what have others done"

Advising and commenting is very easy .

We need to appreciate whatever little anyone is doing .
Was there any need for AIE to do this memorial ? Will it help them win back the confidence of the future passengers ? Will it get any benefit for any comapany to advertise with a memorial regarding 158 deaths on their Airline which would last for ever ????
The answer is NO ....

But this is something which was not done in Hariyana or West Bengal.
So dosent mean that we should not do it in Mangalore....

Whatever little AI is doing , letthem do....
If we all learn to be appreciative for all the small things in life ,then the world will surely be a better place .

Hi Deepak & Nelson,

You have a point too. I like this discussion /debate.

But let us also show our children all the bus accident spots on NH 17 and the number of people old & young who have died over the years and are dying every day and erect a memorial at every spot. I'm sure you both would agree with me provided the respective bus/truck company can afford to buy land for the same.Emotions can run high with today's media presentation - not to mention that many a dear ones have perished.

The recent 2 train accidents ( or may be due to sabotage as claimed ) in west Bengal ,there is no hype at all .More than 300 people died in these 2 incidents.A few years ago an incoming Kazak cargo jet collided with a full Saudi pax jumbo jet over Haryana. All pax perished . But no Memorial was built in Haryana though they were mostly Indian workers on board. Is there a difference ? Why is there no memorial ? Can you both suggest ?

Greg, Mangalore , Im sure you did not have any of your family members in that plane. Thank God for that .
When one of your loved ones die , then even a strangers hug or an embrace gives us the strength to carry on in life.
The memorial was for the 158 people who lost their life in a matter of seconds.
This was the way the airline thought of doing something in memory of the departed.
Coming to utilizing the memorial money to feed the poor , what is your initiative and contribution until now ??
They say charity begins at home.. How many poor people have you fed until now ?? Instead of staying in big houses , why dont you sell your house and give the money to the poor and shift to a rental house ??
And regarding the statement where you said " remember that the families of the victims have been handsomely compensated " , can money replace the person ???

From history and from religous teachings, we can deduce, that Death is not only the end of the human form of existence, but the end of all relations with the living.That is why even the catholic marriages lasts only untill, death do us apart.

In my opinion irrespective of the way in which God takes away the creations, there should be no monumnets or tombs built in memory of the departed, except may be for the purpose of art like the Taj Mahal, and for the purpose history like the AIE crash, and not for emotional individual remembrances1

Hi Greg, the Memorial in Mangalore is built as a tribute to the people died in AIE Crash.. May be down the road 10to 15 years later you or me visiting the crash site can tell our children" see the name of your grandfather who died in this crash!!??.. What Mayavati did is to build a Memorial for herself when she is Alive.. I hope you can make a difference between this Memorial and Mayavati's memorial.

Dear Walter, I do expected it and had written a mail to you and even commented on the article"AIE crash site clean up" a month back urging you to follow up on this "Memorial" I appreciate daiji's efforts in pushing for this Memorial.There could not have been a better way to keep the Memories of dead alive as human nature is "forget"the things very fast. I agree the Air Crash in Mangalore on May 22nd was tragic killing 158 passangers/crew.Our people only think of the passangers and not the entire crew.But building memorials for every incident like this is crazy . Instead of building memorials and wasting public money I suggest the same amount be spent on feeding our poor people who can't afford even a square meal in South Kanara.Building memorials is the handiwork of idiotic politicians with public money.I don't understand as to why our so called educated South Kanara people stoop to this.Yes,our hearts are with the families but remember that the families of the victims have been handsomely compensated .If one were to tragically die in a road accident or a train accident one may not recieve even Rs 2 lakhs as compensation but in an Air Crash the family recieves more than Rs 75 lakhs.

Sometimes I wonder why the same people who have written in these columns prior to myself not feel that more than 300 people die in road accidents only between Kundapur and Thokkattu on NH 17 every year. Why don't they think also of these road accident victims/families and why so much of hype is given to an Air Crash ? Is it because they paid more for a ticket to eventually die ? Soon Mangalore will become famous for " memorials ", like Lucknow !

There is no better way than expressing our condelences to the family by having a memorial site. Within 2 months of AIE crash the immediate action of having a memorial site for crash victims is really commendable. Mark my words, this memorial will remain for centuries and will be historical too.

Even though the Air Crash is Mangalore is very shocking and sad incident, the support & service shown by the locals, Air India management & staff, Govt officials, hospital staff are excellent and words cannot be express the selfless service rendered by all these locals and agencies.

Once again with deep agony by sympathizing with the bereaved members of the family, big thanks to all the agencies including govt. and Air lines for their wonderful work. You have not let down the passenger dependents who have lost their life but caring for the dependents of these passengers is highly appreciable.
