Udupi, Jul 28 (DHNS): Udupi district administration has arranged a battery operated vehicle (buggy) to take aged and the disabled in and around Car Street and Krishna temple premises where the movement of vehicles have been banned.
Speaking after inaugurating the vehicle, Paryaya Shiroor mutt seer Sri Laxmivaratheertha Sripada said the maintenance of vehicle will be done by the Srikrishna mutt. It was indeed a novel idea to help disabled and aged who are not able to walk for a long distance, he added.
Deputy Commissioner Hemalatha informed that two more buggies will be put to service for old and disabled people depending on the success of this buggy. The vehicle has been introduced to lessen the difficulties faced by aged and handicapped who may not be able to walk around the temple owing to the ban on vehicular movement, she said.
“Banning the movement of vehicles in Car Street area was one of the toughest decisions taken by the district administration as the outcome would affect businesses in the area. However, everything seems to be normal and public seems to have been adjusted to the new changes. More buggies will be introduced in course of time to promote tourism,” said MLA Raghupathy Bhat.
