Mangaluru: NCPCR appreciates district administration’s work during pandemic

Mangaluru, Apr 8: Member of National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR), Dr R G Anand, urged to make use of national level helpline 18001212830 which has been launched to provide counselling, psychological and social support to the children during pandemic.

Addressing media here on Thursday April 8, Dr Anand said, “I have visited 214 districts in the country including Udupi regarding protection of child right. Over 500 specialist consultants around the country have given psychological reassurance for Covid-affected children. We are receiving 4,000 calls per day on the helpline. We are providing advice in the regional languages as well.

“The child care centers in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi district has zero Covid cases. It was possible due to the precautionary steps taken by the district administration. The commission has extended its operations for the protection of child rights, abuse cases and Covid. During the time of Covid, ASHA workers and Anganwadi staff have taken all kind of precautionary measures and created awareness. Compared to other districts, Udupi and Dakshina Kannada district has seen zero Covid cases in child care centres.

“The programmes under National Child Welfare in Udupi and Dakshina Kannada district is in good progress. With the increasing number of coronavirus infections in the country, Covid vaccine will help reduce the seriousness of the infection,” he said.

Deputy commissioner Dr K V Rajendra, superintendent of police Rishikesh Sonawane, DCP Hariram Shankar, MCC commissioner Akshy Shridhar and others were present.
