New Mangalore Port to Stop Exporting Ore

Mangalore, Jul 30: The ore export from the New Mangalore Port here has been temporarily stopped. The government on Monday July 26 had banned exports from all the ten ports in the state with the exception of the port here to prevent illegal export of iron ore.
The decision by the port comes in the wake of letter received by the department of commerce and industry of the state, said chief traffic controller Gopalakrishna. The export of ore has been stopped since Tuesday July 27 and we do not know how long the situation will continue, he said and added that the letter states the port to co-operate with the state until the probe on illegal mining is complete.
Further, the government on Tuesday July 27 had also announced banning of issue of permits to transport the mineral for exports, which has met with the opposition from many miners in the state.
