Mangaluru, Apr 12: Abhyuday at NMAM Institute of Technology (NMAMIT), Nitte, works for the wellbeing and progress of students and staff and everyone it connects with, in its course of functioning.

It works towards creating an atmosphere conducive for growth especially for young engineering aspirants.

It designs and carries out thoughtful, healthy, creative activities to enhance their holistic growth.

Induction Programme for Freshers: Interactive sessions over a period of 2 weeks are held on topics like - What consumes your mind, consumes your life; Puzzles to stimulate thinking; Analysis of Google form responses; Growth during the pandemic; Self-awareness and self-revelation (who am I? My strengths - How well do I use it?; Qualities I dislike in myself; Reasons for joining engineering); Employer expectations, Etiquette, Adolescent psychology, How effective am I as a student?, Avoid distasteful behaviours; Life skills; 6 stories related to adolescents in college; Towards becoming an effective student; Lateral and critical thinking modules; Spring cleaning the mind; How meditation rebuilds the brain; How sleep enables learning; Preparation for success and anger management, Super brain Yoga module etc.

PREPARATION OF STUDENTS FOR PLACEMENT

Soft Skills: The training programme conducted on a regular basis comprises of grooming, self-awareness, corporate readiness, body language, interview skills, handling interview rejections etc.

In order to keep the students updated with their technical skills and motivate them towards their upcoming placements, regular sessions are organized wherein the final year students who are placed, educate the pre-final year students on the internship / placement process. Introduction to the company, basic courses to ready oneself, available resources and their experience of interviews are shared with the pre-final year students.

Pre-placement Address: The pre-final year students are addressed in batches by the Placement Team urging them to be optimistic and adapt to the changes. Students are advised to be well-versed with at least one computer language. The need to work on their attitude, aptitude, discipline, help seeking, strengthening the fundamentals and communication skills to succeed in placements are explained to them as also the rules & regulations relating to placements, concept of large recruiters, Dream / Core / Super Dream options and about international placements.

Practice Aptitude Tests: Abhyuday hosts Practice Aptitude Tests for the final year students which include aptitude and technical programming to enable students to face large recruiters confidently and work with real time examples.

Industrial Training and Internship: Abhyuday encourages industrial exposure, training during vacation and internship to students, right from the first year to help relate theory to industrial needs and practice. Over 120 governmental and private organizations help in this endeavour.

TOEFL and IELTS Training Classes: As many students plan to study abroad, online IELTS and TOEFL training classes are conducted for free to prepare them for the Language Proficiency Test.

Artificial Intelligence Skilling Movement with Microsoft by NASSCOM: To close the skill gap, build resilience and enhance employability skills of the students, NASSCOM Future Skills and Microsoft have come together as a Team India effort to make India a global hub for skilled talent in AI. NASSCOM delivers high-quality introductory AI Modules developed by Microsoft for students, through easy to consume modules including live demos, hands-on experiments and assignments. The series cover basics of data science, machine learning models and guides on how to leverage cognitive services to build intelligent solutions. This facility is being made available to students free of cost.

IBM Online Learning Platform ‘OPEN P-Tech’ E-learning Opportunity: It exposes students to the emerging career fields and required skills (technical & professional) and is accessible to all students to help them prepare for the future. When students complete a particular coursework on the platform, they earn industry recognized ‘Digital Badges’ indicating their knowledge and skills to apply for employment or higher education. The platform is mobile-friendly.

Partnership with IBM Shared University Research Programme: The IBM Shared University Research (SUR) Awards have been a world-wide monetary, hardware, software and services programme that promotes research and innovation in areas of strategic mutual interest between IBM and Universities. NMAMIT has a partnership with IBM in this regard, through alumni collaboration.

National Creativity Aptitude Test (NCAT): Students are encouraged to participate in NCAT conducted by the International Forum for Excellence in Higher Education (IFEHE). Designed by some of the best brains from IITs and IIMs, NCAT focusses on creative thinking and encourages students to make use of the same in various problem-solving exercises. The top 20 scorers Pan India get an opportunity to attend a week’s residential course on ‘Creativity and Innovation’ at New Delhi.

Alumni Interaction Series: To strengthen the technical and professional skills of pre-final and final year students, interactions with alumni are enabled informally on Google Meet during weekends in coordination with the Placement Team. The sessions focus on placement preparation, useful placement study materials, use of LinkedIn and networking sites to build contacts with outside world, aspects to consider during resume preparation, strengthening foundation skills and upskilling.

Active Student Clubs: Crack the Campus; Clicz for Photography; Kalanjali for dance; Annadana for distribution of food; Aura & Hands of Hope for reaching out to the needy; SaCA for soft skill development; Grey Matter for quiz; Stereo Club for music; Taaleem for acting; Rachana for art; 'Yuj for Life' for yoga and good health; Authorcraft for creative expressions; ‘Ecolution’, an eco-preservation club to make a better environment, are some of the active student clubs on campus.

The club activities are presented to the freshers by way of short video presentations by Club Heads and students are encouraged to be members of one or two clubs best suited for them, to give healthy expression to student’ talent and minimize boredom and involvement in undesirable, unhealthy pursuits. This eventually leads to students becoming members of professional clubs on campus.

Student Counselling and Support Services: Abhyuday engages in helping students deal with the conflicts in their lives; helping them cope better with academics, their psychological distress by providing psychological therapies, peer help, collaborative help with the support of caring staff and administrators. It maintains a Student Resources Directory to provide peer help to those in need, through carefully  selected competent students. Students avail of this facility through the year when in need.

Placements for the 2021 batch: NMAMIT has initiated steps for placing students in Japanese companies and to smoothen the process, the college conducts a course in Japanese language for the final year students. They are also given an understanding of the traditions that are so unique to the Japanese work place. Several students have been placed in reputed Japanese companies like AIBOD, Kobayashi Create, Nidec-Read, Yokogawa Electric Corporation etc.

This year, 75 reputed companies have made 874 offers besides providing 49 internships. Students with 8.25 CGPA, selected by large recruiters are permitted to apply for ‘Dream’ or ‘Core’ companies. On selection by a core company, previous offers are withdrawn. Students selected by dream / core companies are permitted to exercise ‘Super dream’ options if they have 8.25 CGPA and clear an internal evaluation by the Placement Department.
