Golden Memories of Yesteryear - Loving Tribute to Jim Reeves

The evening of Sunday August 1 proved memorable for all the late Jim Reeves’ fans in and around Mangalore. Jim Fans of South India paid a tribute to the legendary singer through a show, Golden Memories of Yesteryear at The Ocean Pearl, hotel here.
 
It was year 2003 that Max Karkada along with his friends Richie Lasrado, Arun Shiri, Titus Noronha, Rohan Shiri and Denzil Karkada among others came together and contribute their bit to keep the legend’s music memories alive.

 

Max began with Distant Drums, Anna Marie and moved on to Bimbo. He also rendered by Reverend Horton Heat called 'Rock a Billy Rebel' that surprised a many. Singer Amabel won many a heart with Stupid Cupid by Connie Francis. The show ended with Max singing Good Night Irene Goodnight.

On the show, Amabel, Love Joy and Max Karkada crooned songs by The Carpenters, Brotherhood of Man, Frank Sinatra, Tom Jones, Nat King Cole,, Tony Orlando and Dawn, Paul Anka and Shirley Bassey among others.

The band comprised Jerome on bass, Oscar Weltha on keyboard, saxophone and accordion, Melwyn Fernandes on the drums, Cloy Carvello with special effects, Arun Shiri of Ashiba Group, Manoj Lazarus of Taj Group, Sunil, and Denzil Karkada, veteran violinist, Nizil Simon from Kerala accompanied by Theo Alvares from Goa on the trumpet and sax, Gladson Maben popularly known as Babla on the accoustic guitar, Rajgopal on the lead guitar and Shailesh Fredrick and Angelina Moras on harmony.

    Congratulations! The best musicians of Mangalore are here! Nice to see my friends - Maxy Karkada and Oscar Weltha. Mr. Denzil has contributed a lot to the Western Music in Mangalore during the last 50 plus years! Let us salute him!
