Mangaluru, Apr 29: With the fear of a shortage of anti-Covid vaccine doses probably weighing on their minds, people made a beeline to take the jab outside the multispecialty hospital at Wenlock on Thursday April 29.

The vaccination centers in the district saw a huge turnout, as the number of positive cases are increasing throughout the state. The district administration, in the initial days, used to sensitize the public to take the jabs. But now, as the cases are spiking, people in their own interest are coming forward to take the jab.

People made a queue to get vaccinated early morning here. There was exchange of words among the public and the staff in the hospital, as the public were informed that only Covishield vaccine is available and there is no Covaxin and only to those people who already registered online for the second dose will be vaccinated.

According to the sources in the district hospital, it is said that the district has not received the supply of Covaxin. Now in the district, only Covishield vaccines are available. As the supply of vaccine is limited, the demand for the vaccine has increased. There is a variation in the supply and demand and therefore there are no sufficient doses of vaccine in the district. Earlier, when there were sufficient number of doses, people never bothered to take the vaccines. But now, due to panic, more people are coming forward to receive the jab.

Vaccination programme officer Dr Rajesh said, "As of now, we have 7,000 doses of Covid vaccine. As many as 12,000 doses are on the way to the district from Bengaluru. On April 27, we had received 15,000 doses. As there is variation in the demand and supply, as of now, we are vaccinating only those who have taken the first dose. Otherwise, it will go waste. Hence, we are trying to complete the second dose for the people. In the coming days, as vaccines will be available, we will start administering the first dose of vaccines.”

Speaking to daijiworld, deputy commissioner Dr Rajendra K V said, "As we have limited stock, we are managing the situation with a proper plan. Hence, we have also denied on-the-spot registration. Thereby, people who have taken the first dose, will receive their second one. That way, we can fully immunize many people. It is the plan to utilize the stock efficiently, as the vaccines are intermittently supplied. From the district administration, we have also requested the government to supply sufficient doses of vaccine."

Now they say register for vaccination online either in Co-win gov in portal or in Aarogya Setu. But both are not working and not able to register our request. Therefore spot registration shall be allowed. Govt . shall give preference to those who have already taken 1 st dose and are due for 2 nd dose .The concerned authorities shall also inform the people waiting in the lane about the type of vaccine available.

Joe, go deeper & find out why there is an acute scarcity of vaccines! India has donated free vaccines to multiple countries, to earn their goodwill & show our magnanimity, before the second wave broke out, & now our own citizens are struggling to get their jabs, this is our fate; same with money!

Joe, read this report & do your own research please to know the facts: India's government has been supplying countries around the world with free coronavirus vaccine doses. However, there is some worry that this "vaccine diplomacy" will come at a cost to vulnerable Indians. On Monday, the World Health Organization (WHO) approved the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine for use in its COVAX vaccination program, which aims to provide poorer countries around the world with "equitable access" to COVID-19 vaccines. The Serum Institute of India (SII), the world's largest vaccine maker by volume, has agreed to produce 1.1 billion doses for delivery. And India is leveraging its manufacturing capabilities to launch its own initiative aimed at bolstering its global image as the "pharmacy of the world." India has already started distributing millions of its domestically produced coronavirus vaccines for free to some of its neighbors and several countries around the world.. ....

It has been rightly explained and we have to blame the people “ As the supply of vaccine is limited, the demand for the vaccine has increased. There is a variation in the supply and demand and therefore there are no sufficient doses of vaccine in the district. Earlier, when there were sufficient number of doses, people never bothered to take the vaccines. But now, due to panic, more people are coming forward to receive the jab.”

@Ajay My wife and I have taken the first dose of Covaxin ,now second may not be available shortly.Even if we delay the second dose ( which acts as a booster dose) there should not be any danger ,as our body is "primed" though full antibodies may not have developed, our B and T lymphocytes and memory cells are sensitized. But I have written to the Cowin portal administrator that 1. All vaccination centers should be listed 2. The type of vaccine Covishield or Covaxin should be mentioned.3. The total amount to be paid should be mentioned for the paid sites. They have agreed hope they implement it quickly. If done we need not run from one vaccination center to another...

Bypassing some unnecessary trials in proved methods of production of vaccines should have brought vaccines in the market much earlier. We have to be practical and not be bookworms. Govt. should have supported manufacturers to ramp up production. Then it should have been given free in govt. hospitals for poor, paid at private hospitals, and the option to buy vaccines at the chemist and take the jab from the family doctor. There would be no queues at hospitals from where one would bring home the virus. Immunoglobulin ( passive vaccine) costing one tenth of active vaccines should have been produced and marketed. Many small countries have done it,why not we?
