Karnataka defers launch of Covid vaccine drive for people aged 18-44 years

Bengaluru, Apr 30 (IANS): The Karnataka government has deferred the roll-out of the Covid-19 inoculation drive for those in the 18-44 years age group from Saturday.

State's Health Minister, K. Sudhakar told reporters that the new dates for inoculation for this age group (18-44 years) will be announced once the state receives the required quantity of dosage of vaccine to start the drive.

"I appeal to our people not to crowd in front of any hospital as inoculation drive won't commence from May 1 as it was decided earlier," he said.

The Minister said that the state government which is committed to ensure that all above 18 years get vaccinated and it has released Rs 400 crore to purchase one crore dosage of vaccine from Pune-based Serum Institute of India (SII) which is licensed to manufacture Covishield.

Expressing displeasure in an oblique manner, Sudhakar alleged that the SII had failed to supply required quantity despite Karnataka placing its orders in-time due to which the inoculation drive will not be launched as per schedule on May 1.

He asked people who have enrolled themselves on the Cowin portal for inoculation to refrain from going to vaccination centres on May 1.

Sudhakar maintained that the government will intimate the eligible people after the SII confirms the arrival of vaccines.

The Minister stated that the SII has the capability to produce five to six crore doses a month while the Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech that produces Covaxin is capable of producing one to 1.5 crore doses.

While Russia's Sputnik has given licence to pharma major Dr Reddy's Laboratory to produce the vaccine but they have not informed the government officially when they will be able to supply it.

According to official data released by the Karnataka health department stated that cumulatively 93,63,124 beneficiaries including health workers and frontline warriors have received the jab till Thursday across the southern state.

Karnataka's population is estimated to be more than 6.5 crore as of now.

This is a good statement by the government of Karnataka. Just following a FEKU sitting at the center will never help the common people. Our PM sitting at the helm speaks bullshit all the time. If he has allowed the state Governments to buy the Vaccine then their decision to be honored. Sitting at the center and deciding just the benchmark of the price for his own benefit will not help the common populace of India. He has done his crooked act in pricing the vaccine and we do not have a choice.

India Today web desk: "As of April 22, India has administered 13,23,30,644 doses of the Covid-19 vaccines. (PTI) While India's vaccination drive began in January, the number of total doses administered across the country has crossed 13 crore as of now. At this pace, India would take over 8 years to vaccinate 70% of the population and thus achieve herd immunity. And it would take 12 years to vaccinate the entire population. .. ...... Please do your own research to confirm the facts.

So far the world has vaccinated only 7% of the population with single dose. Taking into consideration current production level of Serum institute at 6- 7 crore per month and Bharat Biotech at 1.2 crore per month, it will take at least 17 months to vaccinate 100 crore of eligible Indian population with two doses of vaccine. Vaccine is in short supply across the globe and all countries are after the producers for vaccinating their people. All Indian states are also chasing limited supply of vaccine and the producers are nowhere near meeting their demand. Having known this situation why the governments are giving hope of vaccination when the truth is there are no enough vaccines to meet the requirements. Hope the virus dies itself after some months like that of spanish flue! And we are freed from this disaster.

If you cannot protect life of citizens, better resign and give chance to others to do the job. People are electing government to provide "Safety and Health". People are dying and getting sick. Vaccination drive should be done in a urgent basis. There should not be any delay or postphone for vaccination. Use all the Trained staff for vaccination in different places or request people to register online or offline and give them appointment. Basis on appointment people can get vacination without crowd and cues. Dont play politics and delay. Its matter of life and death. Try to understand the situation. Make Vaccination free of charge and Covid treatment in government and private hospitals free of cost. If you dont have fund create Covid Relief fund surely people will donate what ever they can. Indian citizens are always having helpfull nature.

This is like calling people for food and no food is kept ready ..Totally mismanagement..Why to blame Serum institute ..people who are responsible for this should have thought about it .. Actually when they started above 45 they could include even the younger group ..They have advisers who never open thier mouths .. Everybody wants to say rosy things to please . onlyll round table conferences .nothing is happening on field .. How these politicians come in groups to askfor votes ..In these difficult times also they could have reached common people buy using a strategy .. Reassuring the public is very important at this time .. But here we see more confusion .

It is not good time to vaccinate now. Unknowingly many people are carrying virus and in the process many innocent people likely to get infected when they visit vaccination centers. Better corona cases go down, then you speed up vaccination...
