Bengaluru, May 1: Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr K Sudhakar has asked the administration of Gulbarga Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS) to strictly adhere to the prescribed protocol on the usage of Oxygen and Remdesivir in the treatment of Covid positive patients
Dr Sudhakar, who is also in charge of Medical Education, on a visit to Kalaburgi district from Bidar for reviewing the Covid management situation on Saturday directed the district administration to immediately appoint a senior officer as the nodal officer for monitoring the Covid control efforts in the district.
The Minister visited GIMS and the hospital attached to it for inspecting the Covid control measures.
Pointing out that there have been complaints on the use of Remdesivir injections and the black marketeering of drug used in the treatment of Covid patients, he Minister asked the district administration to constitute a team of experts on the use and handling of Remdesivir vials and Oxygen with the responsibility of checking the usage on a daily basis so as to ensure that the Covid patients were not deprived of the drugs.
He directed the Director of GIMS to send a consolidated report compiled by the expert committee on a daily basis so as to enable proper control.
The State Government is ready to meet all the requirements of the Institute, Dr Sudhakar said and asked the GIMS administration to ensure the proper deployment and utilization of the services of the doctors and medical personnel. The Institute should function in an efficient and transparent manner and respond to the problems and complaints of the people. Any deliberate failures or laxity in the discharge of duty will be dealt with sternly, he warned.
The Minister asked the Kalaburgi Deputy Commissioner to ensure that suitable security and protection was provided to the doctors and medical staff.
Dr Sudhakar advised the district administration to conduct death audits as the mortality rate in the district was as high as 6% so that deficiencies if any could be solved quickly.
He also asked the GIMS Director and Kalaburgi Deputy Commissioner to ensure that the vaccination drive proceeded smoothly and efficiently.
