Mangalore, Aug 8: The Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) on Saturday August 7 cleared the areas outside the central market where vegetables were sold by the side of the road.
Health officer Basavaraju, along with a team of MCC members, carted away the vegetables and the trolleys they were on despite protests by the vegetable vendors.
Speaking to the press, Basavaraju said that the action was taken by the MCC as the locals and vegetable vendors of Central Market complained about throwing of waste vegetables on the road which causes health problems besides blocking the road.
He added that selling vegetables by the roadside will not be entertained in future, and action will be taken against the vendors if they don’t follow the rules.
The area was cleared within two hours and created uneasiness with some vendors expressing displeasure at the move.
