Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Aug 10: Leaders of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishat (ABVP), on Monday August 9, led a delegation of the city-based Karnataka Government Polytechnic (KPT) to Dakshina Kannada MP, Nalin Kumar Kateel, to bring to his attention various problems being faced by them and to seek his help in redressing them. They submitted a memorandum to the MP, giving details of the problems that have been impeding their education.

Through the memorandum, the students have drawn the MP’s attention to the fact that Karnataka Polytehnic lacks proper laboratory facilities. They alleged that the computer laboratory falls short of their requirements and that the college toilets are stinking. One of their grouses is also that the food charges at the college canteen are unreasonably high.

The students want the dilapidated building of the college to be repaired, broken windows to be replaced, and outdated, broken furniture to be replaced. They say they apprehend danger in attending classes in the improperly maintained building and sitting on fragile furniture. They have demanded for better curriculum to support their future plans, and also an improved environment in classes. They have asked the MP to raise the issue of commercialization of education in the Lok Sabha and urge the union government to take steps to stymie this dangerous trend. They warned that they would seek recourse to intensive forms of agitation, if the union government fails to rescue education from the grip of commercialization process.

The MP assured them that he would take steps to protect their interests, and that he would visit their college soon to listen to their grievances, and to discuss all issues threadbare with the governing council of the college, to understand their version. About commercialization of education, he promised the leaders to raise the issue in the next session of the Lok Sabha.

District ABVP convener, Purushottam, organizing secretary, Harsha, city unit organizing secretary, Vinay Jadhav and others led the delegation of students.
