Kasargod, May 8: A special squad of district excise department confiscated a huge cache of liquor that was being illegally transported on an auto rickshaw. The accused managed to escape from the spot. As many as 864 bottles of liquor manufactured for the Karnataka market were confiscated. These were transported in more than 11 cartons.

The liquor was transported from Karnataka to Kerala in an auto rickshaw. As per the information available to the excise squad, the auto rickshaw was traced near Adkasthala in Perla by the special excise squad.

The auto rickshaw was parked by the side of the road near Adkasthala. When the excise squad personnel checked the vehicle they found the liquor. It is suspected that the accused must have fled from the spot as he saw the vehicle of the excise department.

A case against B M Narayana Poojari is registered in this connection. Excise sleuths are on the hunt to apprehend the accused. It is learnt that the accused was involved in the same trade earlier also according to the information provided by excise officials.

this whole story seems concocted by the excise people..How can a person run seeing the excise vehicle? moreover, during transportation of illegal goods the drivers never stop till they reach destination. they must have confiscated three or four times of what is mentioned to the media and other officials..rest is their booty..this usually happens in excise department, be it liquor or in airports. so they must have allowed him to run and in case caught say that only these many bottles were there. Reality of sanatana country...

Karnataka state govt gets upto 20% of it's revenue from liquor sales before covid began in 2019 and now it is probably the biggest contrbuter to govt revenue. No problem as long as you drink responsibly only a few bad apples give the rest a bad image especially after 'thote' country liquor was banned.

"The liquor was transported from Karnataka to Kerala in an auto rickshaw. " - how come the open rickshaw packed to the full with liquor cartons was not stopped at KN or KL border checkposts... "The accused managed to escape from the spot. " how can he escape on foot when there is a excise dept. car... did he vanish into air... "The auto rickshaw was parked by the side of the road near Adkasthala. " --- how can one conclude that the ricksjaw travelled from KN to KL when it is found parked well inside Kasaragod district... overall, sounds like typical ಮಲಯಾಳಿ 'story'...

Get your facts right..... Tamil Nadu is the highest with 15% of national liquor sales followed by Karnataka @ 13%, erstwhile Andhra Pradesh @ 13% (Andhra 7% + Telengana 6%) and Kerala, it is only 5% of national sales. Kerala is No.1 in terms of revenue from liquor because liquor rates are extremely high in Kerala. Don't confuse between Revenue and Consumption.....
