Kolar, May 11: As curfew norms were relaxed between 6 and 10 am for procuring the essentials, the people moved about normally during this period. On that occasion, when the police sub-inspector of the station came for patrolling at Ammavaripete circle in the town, vehicles were stopped and those who were hesitant in replying to queries were caned.
The sub-inspector also hit a transgender, Smitha, who came that way in her two-wheeler. The transgender said she wanted to go to medical shop but the sub-inspector pulled her by her hair. Police sub-inspector, Vedavati, hit her with a cane and ordered her to board the police jeep. When the transgender refused, the sub-inspector pulled her by her hair, held her cane with both hands and brought down on the transgender repeatedly and shouted at her, and forced her to board the jeep. Blood started oozing out of the right hand of the transgender. Still, she was led to the police station.
The people were also angry that the police did not wait till 10 am, which was the scheduled time for procuring essentials. The police began to cane the people at around 9 am. It is said that people proceeding to participate in the blood donation camp in the district hospital were hit and sent back. A youth who was hit thus shared his predicament in social media.
