Mangalore, Aug 12: The inauguration of the specialization forums and decennial celebration of the MSW department of St Aloysius College was held at Eric Mathias Hall on Wednesday August 11.

Lecturer of the department Laveena Lobo welcomed the gathering

Prof Philomina Serrao, director, family service agency, inaugurated the programme and said that if one takes responsibility without accountability, responsibility has to be taken by someone in order to fulfill the task without anything left incomplete. She added that one should never lose hope in the social service which creates mutual understanding.

Former St Aloysius college lecturer Ida D’Souza said that the MBA and MSW in this college comprises only five hours of classes with no heavy homework, thus allowing the student to hone their skills in the competitive world.

Fr Sweebert D’Silva, principal, St Aloysius College, said that a Jesuit priest, A T Thomas who studied MSW and law in the district, went to Jharkand later to help the tribals get their land back from the landlords and abolish slavery.

“In return, his head was chopped off by the landlord’s men and thrown into a pond. Only we can transform the world and we should have the courage to die for others; that is the basis of MSW”, added Fr D’Silva.

Poornima, chief executive officer, Navodaya Gram Vikas Charitable Trust, was also present at the programme.
