Udupi, May 21: "Let her show concern in availing vaccines to all people of her constituency instead of making statements that churches are misleading people on the topic of vaccines," said Veronica Cornelio, KPCC panelist and senior Congress leader in a media release reacting to MP Shobha Karandlaje's statement.
"As an MP, she should be held accountable for all the works. The Christian community has followed the government rules strictly during the lockdown in order to curb the spread of Covid. Christian community created awareness on getting the vaccination. Every parish priest was vaccinated, they motivated church devotees to get the vaccination. The community contributed a lot to the health sector, but Shobha's controversial statements show that she has a lack of knowledge about it," Cornelio said.
Cornelio said that the MP does not even care about her constituency and visits the districts occasionally. "She points fingers at churches but ironically her contributions to her constituency are zero. Her intention is to create unrest in society by spreading false rumours about the Christian community, rather than acting responsibly as an MP. Both central and state government is under BJP reign. Then why is it difficult for her to get vaccines? She has completely failed in this regard," she added.
During this difficult time, she has to focus on unity instead of making baseless comments. She is creating a divide among communities. The entire Christian community is in pain because of her meaningless statement and she has to apologize.
Cornelio warned that if BJP leaders do not think before making such statements, protests will be held.
