Moodbidri: Paladka Parish Priest Fr Dolphy Passes Away

Mangalore, Aug 18: From the Church sources it has been reported that Fr Dolphy Monteiro, the newly appointed parish priest of St Ignatius Loyola Church, Paladka belonging to the diocese of Mangalore was traveling towards Mangalore in his newly purchased bike towards Mangalore to do the formalities of the registration of the said bike.
Just after moving a kilometre on the village road from the church which would join the main road leading to Mangalore city, cow dung was strewn on the road. It has been understood that to escape the ride on the dung, the bike rider tried to control the vehicle applying a sudden break, which led to the skidding of the vehicle and thereby rider falling into the well very next to the road.
As soon as the news spread about the sad incident, Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza , the Bishop of the diocese of Mangalore visited the spot and the church together with Fr William Menezes, the public relations officer of the diocese of Mangalore.
The bishop of the Diocese of Mangalore has expressed his deep sorrow at the sad demise. With deep sadness he also recalled the sudden death of another active priest of the diocese, Fr Vincent Martis by a road accident in early February this year during his private visit to Rajasthan.
When asked about the sudden death, Fr William Menezes, the PRO, feels that that the present geographical context of the fall presents itself as risky one.
Fr Joseph Martis, the present rector of St Joseph’s Seminary is of the opinion that Fr Dolphy was a simple, duty conscious priest with very few words. Vincent Sequeira, the present vice-president of the Parish Pastoral Council of St Ignatius Church, feels that they had received a parish priest who the people really needed, a priest with discipline and right planning, a priest who is a real animator of the church and parish. The whole parish is mourning his death, he said.
Fr Monteiro is the son of Late Joseph M Montiero and Ephrosine Alice Rodrigues of Bantwal Parish. Two of his sisters are members of two different women religious congregations. Born on June 17, 1965, he was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Mangalore on May 9, 1992 after his priestly formation in St Peter’s
Seminary, Bangalore.
After being assistant pastor at Kinnigoli, Milagres, Mangalore and Belman parishes he was the parish priest of Narampady Parish in Kasargod district in Kerala State. From 2002 to 2008 he was the parish priest of St Joseph’s Church, Jeppu-Mangalore and also the financial administrator of St Joseph’s Inter-diocesan Seminary, Mangalore.
After a break of pastoral experience in United States of America for two years, he was given the present office in the last week of May this year.
Funeral Details
Funeral cortege leaves residence `Monteiros', Kinnibettu House, Amtady, Modankap, Bantwal at 7:00 am on August 20. Public homage at residence from 6:30 am to 7:00 am.
The funeral will be held at the Paladka church on Friday August 20 at 10.00 am. The body will be kept for public viewing as well as to pay last repect to the departed soul from 8.00 am onwards at the church.

Moodbidri, Aug 18: Fr Dolphy Monteiro (45), parish priest, St Ignatius Loyola Church, Paladka died in a road accident on Wednesday August 18.
The unfortunate incident occurred near Paladka church at about 9.30 am. The priest drowned as the bike he was riding on skid and fell into the nearby well.
A native of Modankap of Bantwal taluk of Dakshina Kannada district he joined Paladka parish on May 30 after finishing his studies in the US. Earlier, he had also served at Jeppu and Narampady parishes.
