Mangaluru, May 23: Youth Congress leader Rakshith Salian distributed 100 food kits to needy families of Derebail ward no. 26 on Sunday, May 23.
Speaking on the occasion, former MLA J R Lobo said, "I congratulate Rakshith Salian for this kind gesture towards people during the lockdown. Today close to 100 families were given kits in ward no. 26. Rakshith Salian is working day and night to distribute food to the needy in Mangaluru."
Rakshith Salian said, "We have organized a program of distributing kits to 100 families in Derebail ward. In the first wave of Covid, we had given kits to the families in Mangaluru. For the last 24 days, we are distributing foods to the destitute and daily wage workers. We have been also giving masks, mosquito nets along with food kits. We will continue to distribute until the lockdown gets over.
After the state government announced a lockdown, Rakshith Salian along with his friends began providing food to the poor, daily wage workers, destitute and economically weaker sections of the society residing in the city. The group has been serving food to 250-300 people in the places like Urwa, Mannagudda, PVS, State Bank, Hampankatta. Even during the last lockdown, they were involved in serving the needy.
Rakshith Salian's mother, K Sandhya Eshwar Salian, father-in-law, Rajesh Kumar, district Congress secretary T K Sudhir, Youth Congress leader, Ramananda Poojary, former corporator, Padmanabha Amin, president of Derebail ward no. 26, T C Ganesh, businessman, B P Harish Kumar, Dilip Kumar, corporator, Anil Kumar Poojary, Prashanth Sanil from Nidhi Builders, Manjula Nayak, Ramani, Congress leader Neeraj Pal and others were present.
