Mangalore: Sudhir Shetty Inaugurates Kukkaje Photo Expo

Mangalore, Aug 19: The two-day special photographic exhibition of Daijiworld’s ace photographer Dayananda Kukkaje as part of the decennial celebrations of daijiworld.com, being held at St Aloysius College Auditorium, was today inaugurated by Sudhir Shetty, chief operating officer, UAE Exchange.
Inaugurating the event Sudhir Shetty pointed out that Dayananda Kukkaje is a perfect example of how creative thoughts can be put into work of excellence. “As a photographer Dayananda has established himself as a photographer of repute and has emerged as a beacon of hope for youngsters”. He also pointed out that though all of us have access to modern gadgets and instruments it is important, how to
make best use of it. “This exhibition has got everything. It reflects the surprises of nature, our tradition, culture and day-to-day activities relating to the everyday life.
These pictures actually speak. They are sure to leave the spectators astounded with a lasting impression in their minds” Sudhir Shetty stated. Sudhir Shetty also felicitated the ace photographer with flowers and complimented him saying “he is a photographer who always keeps smiling. “Smile create positive atmosphere. It should be genuine rather than forced. But Daya always smiles naturally”.
“I first read Daijiworld.com for any local news as it covers every news in detail immediately giving all details of incidents that occur any time of the day or night with photographs. The website has gained popularity among all sections of the people”, remarked Fr Swebert D’ Silva, Principal of St Aloysius College Mangalore, who was the guest of honour at the inaugural function. Commending its achievements in the last ten years he wished greater success to daijiworld, in the days to come.
He further said “in order to express something it should be there within the heart. This exhibition reflects the language of heart, the feelings within. Or else they would not have come out in the form of photographs. That is the real characteristic of a true artist or a person who is able to get a place in the society through his talent”.
Fr Swebert also took the opportunity to say that any institution or teacher is proud whenever its alumni attains greater heights of glory and said the institution has been striving hard in its mission of providing information and ensuring formation and transformation, all aimed at the betterment of the society.
President Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy M B Abdul Rahman, who was also the guest of honour stated that it the photographs that add life and vigour to news and views. “Photographs provide life to news. Photography is a hobby that can be groomed as a passion by today’s youngsters”, Abdul Rahman opined.
Giving a recent example of Daya’s commitment toward photography and his talent Abdul Rahman pointed out that during the recent women’s meet held at the Town hall Daya had covered the event the entire day and out of the 124 the comments that poured in from different parts 110 people asked who the photographer was. This amply reflects the special talent possessed by Dayananda Kukkaje.
Abdul Rahman took the opportunity to give a clarion call to all the photographers to unite and fight for whatever benefits that is due to the photographers from the government.
Earlier, the guests on the dais that included the chief guest, guests of honour, photographer Dayananda Kukkaje, Editor-in-Chief of Daijiworld.com Walter Nandalike and daijiworld’s Director Operations, Melwyn Rodrigues inaugurated the photo exhibition event by lighting the traditional lamp.
In his welcome address Walter Nandalike, Editor-in-Chief of daijiworld.com pointed out that today being the world photographic day; it was befitting to organize this photo exhibition of daijiworld’s photographer Dayananda Kukkaje. Giving due credit to Dayananda Kukkaje he said “Daya joined our organization in 2004 and as a young and energetic photographer he has been willing to go to any place, any
time. Even after so many years he has been able to maintain the same hardworking and enthusiastic spirit. It is not correct to say Daya has become famous due to daijiworld.com. It is the other way round. Any incident, any time of the day or night and Daya will be the first to be on the scene. It is indeed our good fortune to have him as our photographer”.
There are 2 or 3 incidents, though not pleasant ones, such as the attacks on churches, pub attack or the recent plane crash at Bajpe airport and it was Dayananda Kukkaje’s photographs which were used all over the world by news agencies and newspapers. The entire world has used his photographs, Walter declared.
Talking about Sudhir Shetty, the Chief Guest of the event, Walter said “Sudhir Shetty is a man of great capacity. Under his able leadership UAE Exchange branches have risen from 1 branch in 1991 to the present 483 branches in 2010.
Under his dynamic leadership the turnover of UAE Exchange last year reached a whopping 29 billion dollars, which truly demonstrates his leadership qualities”.
Melwyn Rodrigues, daijiworld’s Director, Operations, proposed the vote of thanks. Leslie Rego compered the programme.
About 90 photographs of Dayanananda Kukkaje are available for public viewing at the exhibition.
An interactive session with ace photographers Yajna and Ravi Posavanike of Times of India is scheduled at 4.00 pm today at the same auditorium. Tomorrow Photo Journalist of Udayavani Astro Mohan will deliver a talk on photography at the same venue.
Mangalore's top compere Leslie Rego compered the entire event.
The exhibition is open for public viewing from 10.00 am to 6.00 pm today and tomorrow.
The event was organized by Daijiworld.com to commemorate its decennial celebrations, in association with Radio Sarang and the department of Mass Communication, St Aloysius College.
