Kaup: Toxic Fertilizer Mistaken for Sugar - Two of Family Die

Udupi, Aug 21: In a shocking incident, two members of a poor family died when they unknowingly consumed poison mistaking it for sugar, at Manipura, Kaup, here on Saturday August 21.
The mother, son and daughter were preparing tea in the evening when they mistook Paragon, a toxic plant fertilizer, for sugar and added it to the beverage.
Instantly, the poison began to take effect. The mother, Muttumulia, aged 75, was rushed to Udupi government hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Her son Narayana (45) and daughter Sundari (50) were taken to KMC hospital, Mangalore. However, Narayana succumbed on the way while Sundari's condition is reported to be critical.
A case has been registered by the Kaup police in this regard.
