Udupi, Aug 22: The commuters of Padubidri - Karkala main road finally got  a sigh of relief after the authorities  responded by filling  the potholes on this road with patch-up works.

It can be recalled that on the day of India's independence, daijworld had carried  an exclusive pictorial story of  the pathetic situation of this road. On a very next day, authorities  inspected the road between Padubidri and Nandikoor and realized the need  for undertaking the patchwork.  The huge potholes have been filled with mud and cement on the following days and  now motorists  and other  vehicles are able comfortably drive through this road.

"We do not know what made them to repair the road all of  a sudden.  For past two months no one bothered to listen to our complaints  or  see our difficulties.  But soon after independence day they began to fill the potholes” said a resident of Nandikoor, who was unaware of the detailed report published on daijiworld.com.

Though one is skeptical about how long the patch  work is going to stay, it has  certainly given a temporary relief to the commuters and the pedestrians who were going throw a harrowing experience travelling through  this important road.  Many vehicles including Express buses ply regularly on this road that leads to important destinations  such as Nitte group of institutions, Attur Church etc.

Daijiworld team had visited the area and published a  detailed report along with photographs that gave a tell-tale picture of the awful condition of the road and the problems it created to the vehicles and the general public and also the apathy of the district administration and the elected representatives .

Seems to me that the patriotic spirit of the Independence Day must have cast a lasting impact coupled with Daiji's recipe of news feedback which must have given a relief for sometime. The photographs indicate that the patchy work is far from satisfactory. It now needs to be seen how long will this road work survive, which is anybody's guess.

I'm sure it must've been cleraly defined in the judiciary of this country as to how to deal with the juvenile delinquency of this kind and the law WILL take it's own course whether you like it or not.

I salute Daijiworld for waking up our famous sleeping district administration! The callous attitude of district administration can be seen everywhere in South Canara. Looks like they have difficulties to get out of their seats. What a drain on Tax payers money!

Dear Daijiworld, similar pathetic condition do exists between the Buntwal to Belthangadi stretch. This road although labelled as 'National Highway 234' more than 18 months now, but Highway works Department (NAHI)is evading to take-up reapair and much needed widening works with a reason of funds yet to be allocated for this road from Centre, same time and State PWD says that they had already transferred the related files to NAHI and it is now upto them to handle. This jurisdiction conflicts between State and Centre will keep this very busy stretch worst in the coming days!

As the saying goes "unless the baby cries, it won`t be fed"- the Government authorities promptly acted following the publicity given to this road problem by the Daijiworld and then the inconvenience and dismay expressed by the public through their number of comments. The authorities deserve to be complimented in this regard for prompt action.

Congratulations to Daijiworld for highligting the bad roads in Padubidri, thanks to all the commentators who took trouble and spending their precious time. Some give bold advice, some showed their unhappiness, some concerned about the danger and difficulties of the commuters, some are debatable and some are pro and anti government. Any how it made authorities to take action eventhough it is momentary.

Congratulaions to Team Daiji for high lighting issues concerning the soceity there by awakening the authorities concerned.
The repair work done now though provide temporary relief to commuters, problems likely to recurr within a couple of weeks, whenrin permanent repair is warranted.
There is a chance to continue the present work treated as permanent work and billing the same accordingly also. Close watch on the said aspect is very much required.

Congratulations to Daiji for the good work.

That said, I dont see a point in thanking the authorities now as that would be like ignoring all the painful sufferings due to bad conditions earlier. Anyway, from the pics what I see is a temporary patch up work which will be undone some strong rains
