Fishing Community Invokes Divine Blessings with Samudra Puja

Mangalore, Aug 24: The fishing community in the city offered Samudra puja led by Elu Patna Mogaveera Samyukta Sabha, under the guidance of Raja Sandhyanat Swami of Kadri temple here on Tuesday August 24.
Swami Raja Sandhyanat in his address to the gathering said that worshiping the sea lord is a contemporary tradition in the country. It is offered to appease the lord and seek blessings and protection during fishing sprees. It is also an occasion to express gratitude for the abundance of catch that sustained the fishermen, said Swami Raja Sandhyanat.
Swami Raja Sandhyanat also graced a grand procession from Brahma Bobbarya temple, Bokkapatna to Tannirbavi, passing through Sultan Battery along the Gurpur rivulet. The puja offerings of milk, fruits and coconuts were made to the sea to show gratitude for continued protection by the sea lord.
State Mogaveera executive committee secretary Vasudev Bolar, Elu Patna Mogaveera Samyukta Sabha president Devdas Gurikar Jeppu, Yuva Vedike Jogi Samaj president Mahesh Kumar and others were present.
The fishing community observed a holiday on Tuesday to participate in the annual ritual. The Samudra puja marks the beginning of a new fishing season.
