Mangalore, Aug 30: In what could be termed as favour of fate, as many as 40 passengers were saved with only five sustaining injuries when two city buses collided near Hotel Roopa on New Balmatta Road here in the early hours on Monday August 30.
The city bus Maroli Travels (44D) on its way to Hampankatta from Ullal collided with Manjanady Travels (51) on its way to Manjanady near Konaje from Hampankatta in the heart of the city at around 6.20 am. It is gathered that the Manjanady Travels was on the route violating one-way rule as it was early morning and following the impact of the collision the bus has been completely mangled breaking into two.
Among the injured five, a woman has sustained severe injuries while the other four men escaped with minor injuries. More passengers would have been injured, but as luck would have it Manjanady Travels that was just leaving the city was carrying only handful of commuters lessening the impact of the accident.
A case has been filed at the Kadri police station.
