Udupi: Ashtami Kreeda Koota - Public Revels in Rural Games Fair

Udupi Aug 30: It is a week long fun as cross section of the society in the town will be soaked in rural and innovative folk games competitions in a first-of-its-kind venture by Sri Krishna Mutt administration. The car street and Sri Krishna Mutt surroundings is euphoric with activities as Kreeda Koota, sports competitions to mark Krishna Janmashtami is underway here.
On Monday August 30, while the common citizens enjoyed cycle race, tyre changing competition was held for the autorickshaw and car drivers and owners making the competition more vibrant with rustic flavour. Women too had something to cheer with flower and mangalarati batti (wick in local parlance) weaving competition. Men also got a chance to flex their muscles and satiate their appetite with competitions, malla yuddha and eating bananas.
The other games organized as competitions on the day-one on Sunday August 29 were sppina ata, donka, jiblee, kho-kho, berchandu, lagori, chaduranga (chess), pagade among others. Frog race too was organized for children. Paryaya seer Lakshmivarateertha Swamiji of Shirur Mutt inaugurated the Kreeda Koota on Sunday.
