Raichur: Three Thermal Power Units Shut Down - Power Generation Hit

Daijiworld Media Network – Raichur (SP)

Raichur, Aug 30: Out of seven generation units of Raichur Thermal Power Station here, only four are working now. Three have been shut down because of coal supply bottlenecks and technical snags.

Units 1, 2 and 6 have stopped generating power. Repairs are being undertaken. Although the other four units together are expected to generate 1,000 mega watts of power, the present generation is only around 750 mw. The officials say that these units are not able to generate power to the optimum level, because of the supply of wet coal from the mines, which gives rise to certain technical problems while burning.

Has the payment been made for coal or the money is diverted elsewhere? The same coal is used by several other power plants in the country why they do not have problems? If Coal India not supplying propeer quality whey does Govt not take up the issue with Central seriously and effectively and get more allocation from the national grid? Killing two birds with one bullet - use the money meant for coal and also buy power from traders at inflated price like Rs 10 per unit with big kickbacks in the garb of power shortage.
