Dharwad: Farmer holds grand birthday celebrations for bullock that was about to be slaughtered

Daijiworld Media Network - Dharwad (SP)

Dharwad, Jul 2: A farmer here recently celebrated the birthday of his bullock in a grand manner. Taking pity at the animal that was on line for being slaughtered at a slaughterhouse, the farmer brought it home and has been taking great care of it.

He celebrated the birthday of the bullock on the day he brought it home from the clutches of the slaughterhouse. This is the story of Mailari, beloved bullock of farmer Nagappa Omagannavar, from Devarahubballi village in Dharwad taluk.

Nagappa was going through a lean patch two years back, and found it hard to look after his bullock. He then sold the bullock to a farmer from a neighbouring village and forgot about it. Two years later, he was passing by a slaughterhouse located in the cattle market of Dharwad when he heard the bellowing sound of a bullock that felt like it was calling him. It sounded familiar, and he went there and was shocked to find his bullock, Mailari, with tears in its eyes. Nagappa took pity, and wanted to get the bullock released. But the slaughterhouse sought Rs 52,000 and Nagappa agreed to pay.

When Nagappa sold the bullock, it had shed tears then. His heart had melted then too. After fixing the price of the bullock, the farmer was faced with the challenge of pooling the money to pay so much. He returned to his village, raised loans from some people, and saw that his earnest desire to get back that bullock was met. After coming back to its original home, the bullock started to serve him as it did in the past. Now, financially too Nagappa's family is getting stronger. Therefore, he celebrated the birthday of Mailari in a grand manner.

@Jossey S:Nallasopara, why Jossey? It was his original Bullock, then he was not having enough money to lookafter, later when he found it in slaughter house felt like it is his own child like.So brought back to his original house.Animals who also feel at home by some people ,and sometimes when you sell them their finanz too go down.Suppose by some animals bring home finanz situation too improves.Thats my personal experience .You may laugh or say stupid.but take it as you want.So he too must have felt the same.spend on covid victims or needy is personal thing.

Just imagine the pain of the animal before eating it. Cow is not like goat or chicken. It has some special attachment to human. Cows shed tears when someone dies at home. It can understand what is going on in the house. I have experienced it.

Dogs are man's best friends, but see a video of Bruno a pet dog being beaten to death in Kerala. We have to treat animals with compassion.

What an amazing example of human compassion towards animals. We must include this as a real life example with some depiction in school curricula. It will be surely a great learning experience fir kids. It will teach them the values of responsibility, gentleness, love and compassion for other living beings around us.

This is only about animals. As human beings we are supposed to shower our gratitude to the soil we are born and to all nonliving and living from plants, trees, and to all animals, birds, insects because of one reason we have the intellect to understand we are living as Aliens for some days and our stay are temporary. Until that time we can't harm any creations which also exist along with us unless we have the power to create them.

Humans do not need to consume animals. I am happy to hear that the bullock is freed from the slaughterhouse. Unfortunately, though, it might be too expensive for the farmer to look after it until its ripe old age.

Correct. Be vegetarian, live in harmony with nature, fellow human beings and animals.Animals have brains and can feel emotions. They are more faithful than humans.

Heart wrenching indeed. Animals like cows and bullocks do have lot of emotional attachments with their patrons and the master. We fail to understand the same and we treat them as commodities.
