Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Jul 3: Out of 93 lac students of classes 1 to 10 in the state, 31 lac have no smartphones with them. Eight lac students have no television sets or radios in their homes.

The department of public instruction started online classes from July 1. It had conducted a survey to find how many students can draw benefit from online classes. The information they collected has now come out into the open.

There are 93,01,805 students in the state, who are distributed between classes 1 to 10. 79,33,079 among them have phones while 58,59,907 have smartphones or tabs. But, 31,27,524 students do not have smartphones. Moreover, 37,79,965 students have no internet facility.

As many as 81.14 lac students have television sets in their homes. 10.45 lac have radios. 8.65 lac students do not have both these facilities. As far as e-mails are concerned, only 4.89 lac students use this facility.

Most of the students studying in private schools have smartphones with them, but students of government schools hardly have any phones with them. As physical classes are not conducted because of coronavirus scare now, the department is thinking of ways to involve the students with studies. It plans to provide smartphones to students so that online classes can be conducted. For this purpose, the department has also been getting smartphones donated by donors. Plans are also afoot to buy smartphones by the government directly.

The department of public instruction conducted this survey to study all these points and to take effective steps to see that the children's education does not get affected.

Survey report may be true, but unbelievable. I think among those 31 lac students, some may be really unable to buy smartphones / tv due to financial problems. Others, don't have smartphones/tv just because they dont want to buy it for educational purpose. As reported in the news, it is said that some 37 lac students dont have internet facility. I think it is a big joke. There are some areas where networks are unavailable. But, I think students say this reason when they are not ready to attend the classes. Any how, the care towards education of Karnataka govt is appreciable. Please distribute phones free of cost to govt/aided school children first. If they don't give satisfactory response for the classes evenafter getting smartphone, then collect it's cost. It is my suggestion.
