Kuwait, September 13: Kuwait Canara Welfare Association (KCWA), under the presidentship of Rudy D’Souza, celebrated the feast of their Patron, beloved Mother Mary (Monti Fest), on Sunday September 12, 2010 at the Holy Family Cathedral premises in the city from 4 pm onwards.
The programme started with the blessing of the new harvest (Novem) at 4 pm by visiting priest, Fr Alban D’Souza, along with parish priest, Fr Gaspar Fernandes, Fr John Harry D’Souza, and deacon, Sylvester D’Souza, followed by the Holy Mass in Konkani at 4.15 pm. The blessed grain and dates were distributed among the gathering after the mass.
Traditional fellowship dinner was served to a large crowd of devotees that had gathered for the occasion, with mouth-watering Mangalorean vegetarian dishes prepared by Little India/M & M Caterers. KCWA follows this tradition every year on the first Sunday after nativity feast, taking into consideration the holiday for the domestic servants, who otherwise do not get a chance to attend any programmes that are conducted during the weekends. Every year, the attendance for the programme has been going up tremendously, which is a proof of its popularity and sign of people in gulf missing traditional feast of their homeland. This year, the gathering was the largest ever, as the occasion coincided with the Eid holidays in Kuwait.
