Canada: Mangalorean Community in Vancouver Celebrates Monti Fest

Vancouver, Sep 13: The annual feast of Nativity of Mother Mary was celebrated for the fourth consecutive year by members of the Mangalorean Community, Vancouver here on Sunday September 12.
The event commenced with the blessing of newly harvested corn (Novem) and Eucharistic celebrations.
The main celebrant was Fr Rudolph D'Souza, OCD of the Guardian Angels parish, here. Fr Jerry D'Souza OCD, Fr Ranjan D'Sa OCD and Fr Mario Fernandes OCD were the co-celebrants of festal Holy Mass.
The procession was led by Fr Jerry D'Souza as everyone sang the hymn 'Sakkad sangathan melyam', and walked in procession carrying flowers and showered flowers to the hymn of ‘Moriyek Hogolsiam’. The new paddy-sheaves were flown in especially for the occasion from Mangalore.
The Mass commenced with a welcome note by Fr Jerry D'Souza and the readings were read by Ella D'Cunha and Joel Sequeira. The Choir sang some melodious hymns in honour of Infant Mary.
After the Eucharistic celebration, the Mangalorean community members organized a grand celebration at the parish hall. It was an evening filled with fun and entertainment for all. Old and young swayed to the Konkani, Kannada, Hindi and English music played by Norbert Coutinho.
The games were organized by Amanda, Sharon, Karen and group. Ella D'Cunha compered the programme.
There was mouth watering authentic Mangalorean food and the Vorn prepared by the community members. The community members have put in their hard work to the event a success.
