Tryouts for Coca-Cola Mir Iqbal Hussain Football Trophy Held in City

Mangalore, Sep 15: The selection of football players for the under-16 national-level ‘Coca-Cola Mir Iqbal Hussain Trophy 2010-2011’ was done at Nehru Stadium here on Wednesday September 15.

Speaking to Daijiworld, D M Aslam, chairman, Dakshina Kannada District Football Association (DKDFA), said that DKDFA under Karnataka State Football Association, Bangalore, conducted the selection to choose players for the state tournament.

The selection process will be conducted in four districts of the state - Mysore, Bangalore, Mangalore, and Davangere. Those chosen will participate in the national-level football tourney. As many as 18 school teams are participating in the selection process.

Mysore University football player Narayan Salian inaugurated the programme. Umesh Uchil, joint secretary, DKDFA, P A Rahman, former football player for Reserve Bank of India, Vijay Suvarna, member, Karnataka State Football Association, who also represents Mangalore at the state level, were present on the occasion.

The national-level tournament is part of the grassroots initiative by Coca-Cola, which is the sponsor of All India Football Federation’s Mir Iqbal Hussain Trophy for sub-junior level. This is the second edition of the Trophy.
