Udupi: Let CM Bommai adopt Koosamma memorial government hospital – Ashok Kumar Kodavoor

Udupi, Jul 30: “Health is important to all and all should get it free. Pregnant women who come for delivery and those who deliver children need medical care. It is unfortunate that the government does not ensure that care. Chief Minister Bommai knows the situation in Udupi as he is the district in charge minister. Let him adopt the hospital as his contribution and provide free services,” urged district Congress president Ashok Kumar Kodavoor.

He was speaking in the protests in front of Koosamma Shetty memorial government hospital for women and children by district Congress members condemning that treatment to pregnant women is being denied in the hospital.

“Dr B R Shetty has maintained the hospital so far after an agreement with the government. As the government has been informed that he is not able to run the hospital any longer due to financial constraints, the government should cut down on unnecessary expenditure and utilize the funds for such purposes,” he said.

Leader Amrith Shenoy said that Udupi MLA should hold an emergency meeting this evening to ensure that normal facilities are available in the hospital. “There would have been no problem of funds if the MLA had spent Rs five crores on payment of salaries to nurses instead of buying barren land with it. We are not against agriculture. But MLA should know what action is reasonable at what time. The government has permitted to open Bars and shops. But they have objected to political programme just because the opposition party is criticizing their maladministration,” he said.

KPCC district panellist Veronica Cornelio said that pregnant women who came for delivery in the hospital have been sent back. “The government should run the hospital,” she said.

“The chief minister who is the district in charge minister should solve the salary problems of hospital staff. Health is the basic need of people. People are not able to approach private hospitals due to difficult Corona conditions. Where should the sick go if not here?,” she asked.

Ramesh Kanchan, Prakhyat Shetty, Yathish Karkera and others were present.
