Chandigarh, Oct 26: Five youths were injured, three of them critically, after unidentified attackers opened fire on a group of young men sitting outside a local shop in the Angadpura neighbourhood of Punjab's Moga district, triggering panic in the area.

According to preliminary information, the attackers arrived in a black SUV and fired several rounds at the group. Three of the victims sustained critical bullet injuries to the head and abdomen, while two others were also injured in the shooting. The injured were rushed for medical treatment.

Senior police officials, including Moga Senior Superintendent of Police Sartaj Singh Chahal, reached the spot and inspected the scene. Police personnel are examining CCTV footage from the surrounding area to identify the attackers and establish the sequence of events.

Forensic experts were also deployed to collect evidence from the site. Meanwhile, police have begun recording statements from witnesses and the victims' families, who have reportedly named some suspects in connection with the incident.

Preliminary investigations suggest that personal enmity and a longstanding rivalry between two groups may have triggered the shooting. However, the exact motive and the involvement of the suspected individuals are yet to be established.

The incident has renewed concerns over the law-and-order situation in Punjab, where a series of violent incidents has drawn attention to public safety. Police are continuing their investigation to identify and apprehend those responsible.
